2009 Stakeholders' Summits

The New York State Cancer Consortium has hosted three NYSCC Stakeholders' Meetings this year in Rochester (May 8), Albany (May 11), and New York City (May 15). For the first time, invitations were issued to non-members that are involved in lessening the burden of chronic diseases on New Yorkers. Over 150 people registered to attend these day-long events.

The 2009 NYSCC Stakeholders' Meetings were held to provide attendees with an update on the changes to the Consortium throughout the past year, information on the Prevention Agenda Toward the Healthiest State and a sustainability training hosted by the American Cancer Society. (Sustainability means the development of a communications plan to identify and connect appropriately and meaningfully with decision makers to maximize your organization's impact over time.)

In the afternoon, attendees were asked to attend a break out session, determined by the four new program committee areas of the NYSCC: Cancer Prevention & Early Detection, Palliative Care, Tobacco Control, and Workforce Shortages. These groups were charged with identifying decision makers for their program committee area and starting to develop a communications strategy to reach them. Results from these breakouts will be provided when collated.
