This on-line community for nonprofit organizations offers classes, weekly articles and forums. Of particular interest to grant writers are the Grants & Foundations Review and Don Griesmann's Grant Opportunities.

Forum of the Regional Associations of Grantmakers

Provides links to the 32 Regional Associations of Grantmakers across the United States. These, in turn, provide information about local foundations and offer opportunities and information with a local or regional focus. This website also covers topics of interest to grantmakers, such as rural philanthropy and trends in giving.

Foundation Center

The Foundation Center's mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. They accomplish this through information on their web site, through materials which can be purchased for an office library and through a network of 'Cooperating Collections' of materials at libraries across the nation, with librarians trained to assist individuals in using them.

Provides information on IRS 990 forms. Allows users to view their own organization's form and update it as needed. A foundation's 990 form is also a useful tool to understand its giving patterns.

The Attorney General's office provides useful information to nonprofit organizations on a variety of subjects, including resources of Boards of Directors and information on questions to ask before and after signing a contract with a fund raising professional. The website also includes links to federal government web sites of interest to nonprofit organizations.

The vision of the Philanthropy Journal is to help people understand, support and work in the nonprofit and philanthropic world, and help them recognize and solve social problems. This site offers daily updates on news and announcements of interest to the nonprofit sector.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy

A comprehensive newspaper providing news of the nonprofit sector. The gifts and grants section includes foundation news and also information about newly funded grants. Total access to the site requires a subscription, but there is a lot of information to be had for free as well.

The Grantsmanship Center

This website provides information on a variety of training opportunities offered by TGCI, as well as a resources section with information about local, state, and federal funding opportunities. This is a very easy to navigate site.

Grants.Gov
www.grants.gov
Grants.gov is a central storehouse for information on over 1,000 grant programs and access to approximately $400 billion in annual awards. You can search by grant open date, close date, agency name and category. You can also sign up for e-mail grant alerts. This site primarily provides information on federal government funding opportunities.
