The NYSCC Quarterly Member Meeting Series
The NYS Cancer Consortium Quarterly Member Meeting Series are virtual meetings held throughout the year to provide members with information about Consortium events and activities and feature a topic in cancer prevention and control. Meeting attendees learn about cancer-related activities happening across the state, and receive helpful information, resources, and best practices to reduce the state’s cancer burden.

Enhancing Wellness through Nutrition, Activity, and Policy for Cancer Patients and Survivors
The Healthy Eating and Active Living action team presented on the latest information and research regarding healthy eating and active living for cancer patients and survivors. There was a focused discussion on the Memorial Sloan Kettering Healthy Living Program promoting exercise during and after cancer therapy, and policies addressing food insecurity.

Environmental Carcinogens Action Team: The Consortium in Action
The team provided an overview of the latest evidence on environmental carcinogens, activities of the action team and future directions followed by a panel discussion on environmental health equity.

NYS Cancer Survivorship: Improving Care, Bolstering our Workforce
The New York State Cancer Consortium’s Cancer Survivorship Action Team provided an overview of models of care in cancer survivorship and a framework to support care delivery systems. They reviewed their ongoing projects, including education and future training opportunities. They also discussed their ongoing pilot Advanced Practice Provider (APP) training program that offers opportunities for APPs to rotate among rural and urban settings, including member institutions (Columbia University, Bassett Health, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center), and an upcoming Project ECHO with opportunities for training primary care provider teams about cancer survivorship.

Lung Cancer Screening Action Team Presents: The Consortium in Action
The Lung Cancer Screening Action Team provided our Consortium members and those alike, with a knowledgeable panel for conversations that explore the status of lung cancer screening in New York State and examine current efforts and promising avenues to increase screening.

Taking a Jab at Cancer Prevention: Closing the HPV Vaccination Gap in New York State
The HPV Coalition lead the first of our Consortium in Action Series. They directed our conversation towards the importance of HPV vaccination in cancer prevention and how Coalition members can work together to improve vaccination rates. We heard from pediatricians from the Coalition who provided a plethora of information and introduced the new Start at Age 9 campaign.

Addressing the Cancer Burden in LGBTQ+ Communities: A Training from the National LGBT Cancer Network
The National LGBT Cancer Network provided a training on how to apply best and promising practices to foster inclusive cancer education, prevention and screening in LGBTQ+ communities. Topics included LGBTQ+ terminology, identities, and population trends, cancer related health disparities impacting LGBTQ+ communities, and facilitators and barriers to cancer prevention, education, and screening among LGBTQ+ individuals.

Data in Action: Using Public Opinion Data to Inform NYS Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Initiatives
Dr. Don Levy, the director of Siena College Research Institute, presented results from the 9th annual NYS Department of Health Chronic Disease Public Opinion Poll, a mixed methods survey of adult residents of NYS that was conducted in January 2021. The presentation summarized data on the perceptions of NYS adults about key public health issues and their attitudes towards public health policies in chronic disease prevention and control including tobacco control, cancer prevention and control (indoor tanning, HPV vaccination, paid leave), and nutrition.
